San Antonio Rampage News Release
ROCKFORD, IL - The San Antonio Rampage claimed their second straight victory with a 4-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs at the Rockford MetroCentre on Saturday night. The Rampage have racked up 55 points on the year as their record improves to 27-18-1-0.
Rampage center Andrew Ebbett provided an assist to extend his point streak to four games. Rampage forwards Jamie Bates and Ned Lukacevic each had a multiple-point game tallying one goal and one assist apiece.
The Rampage were the first to score as they claimed a 1-0 lead 12:48 after the initial puck drop. Lukacevic and Nolan Yonkman assisted on Bates' backhanded shot from the slot that went over the right leg of IceHogs goaltender Alec Richards and into the back of the net.
San Antonio extended their lead to 2-0 on right wing Matt Beaudoin's 14th goal of the season at the 5:21 mark of the second period. The Rampage used a four-on-four scenario to their advantage as Ebbett tapped the puck backwards to Beaudoin along the left wing boards where he fired a shot to the high glove side of Richards. Jonas Ahnelov supplied the second assist for his first point of the season.
Rockford cut the deficit in half to 2-1 as center Jeff Taffe received the puck on a centering feed and snapped a shot that slid underneath Rampage netminder Al Montoya's left leg padding and into the lower right corner of the net 54 seconds into the third period on the power play.
The Rampage pushed their lead to 3-1 after Bates set up Lukacevic in front of the goal for a backhander that beat Richards blocker side 5:30 into the final frame. David Brine added the second helper.
With 1:49 remaining in the contest, Rockford head coach Bill Peters pulled Richards in favor of a sixth attacker, however, Rampage center Bracken Kearns scored on the empty net to finalize the San Antonio victory at 4-1.
Montoya finished the night with 31 saves on 32 IceHogs shot attempts while Richards made 21 saves on 24 Rampage shot attempts.
The Rampage conclude a five-game road trip on Monday night when they travel to Cedar Park Center to face the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m.
