Falcons Host the Whale Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale meet for the fifth time this season and first time since the Whale changed their name from the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Falcons are 3-1 against Connecticut/Hartford this year with three of the four games being decided by just one goal. The Falcons and Whale/Wolf Pack haven't met since back on November 19 when Hartford beat Springfield 5-2.

The Whale enter Saturday with a record of 21-17-2-5 good for 49 points and third place in the Atlantic Division. Mike Blunden and John Moore lead the Falcons in scoring against the Whale/Wolf Pack this year with four points each. Tomas Kubalik and Maksim Mayorov are tied with Blunden for most goals against Connecticut this year.

Kris Newbury leads Connecticut in scoring against Springfield this year with one goal and four assists for five points in four games.

The Falcons return home after spending the week in Charlotte, NC where they split a pair of games. Springfield beat Charlotte by a score of 6-5 on Friday night using two goals from both Chris D'Alvise and Tomas Kubalik. Both Ben Guite and Maksim Mayorov added one goal and two assists in the win.

Connecticut lost to the Hamilton Bulldogs on home ice Friday night by a score of 7-3. Hamilton built a 3-0 lead before the Whale responded with three unanswered goals of their own to tie the score. The Bulldogs went on to score four more unanswered goals to earn the win.

WILSON JOINS FALCONS - The Columbus Blue Jackets assigned center Kyle Wilson to the Springfield Falcons on Friday.

Wilson, 26, has collected four goals and seven assists for 11 points and 12 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Blue Jackets this season. Signed as a free agent by Columbus on July 2, 2010, he joined the club after spending the past three seasons with the Washington Capitals organization. In 2009-10, he tallied 0-2-2 in two games with the Capitals and added 24-29-53, 23 penalty minutes and was +17 in 77 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears. He added 6-6-12 in 21 playoff games to help the Bears capture their second-straight Calder Cup Championship.

Minnesota's 12th pick, 272nd overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Wilson has registered 107-120-227, 108 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +52 in 298 career AHL games. He has added 16-25-41 and 16 penalty minutes in 67 Calder Cup playoff games. Prior to his professional career, he tallied 46-55-101 and 72 penalty minutes in 139 games with Colgate of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference from 2002-2006.

DUPONT UP - New York Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather announced Thursday that the Rangers recalled forward Brodie Dupont from the Whale. The callup is the first of Dupont's four-year pro career.

In 40 games with the Whale this season, Dupont has registered eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points, along with 54 penalty minutes. Dupont's assist total is tied for fifth on the Whale club, and he is also fifth in PIM. In 265 career games with the Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack, the 23-year-old native of Russell, Manitoba has 52 goals and 71 assists for 123 points, along with 365 PIM.

Dupont was a third-round selection (66th overall) by the Rangers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
