
P-Bruins Fall To Pirates 5-2

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-2 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Lane MacDermid and Trent Whitfield. Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Poster Night against the Manchester Monarchs.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead at the 7:13 mark of the opening period, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Colin Stuart tallied his ninth goal of the season, with T.J. Brennan and Luke Adam recording the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 11:47 mark. Trent Whitfield worked the puck into the zone fed it behind the net to Kirk MacDonald. He left it off to MacDermid who shot the puck, picked up his own rebound and scored his third goal of the season. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
Portland made it 2-1 at the 15:18 mark of the second period. Mark Mancari netted his 21st goal of the season, while Drew Schiestel grabbed the lone assist. The Pirates led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
The P-Bruins tied the game at two at the 3:26 mark of the third period. David Ling held the puck in the P-Bruins zone and made a pass up the ice giving Whitfield a breakaway. He slipped the puck into the net for his first goal of the season. Portland retook the lead at the 15:54 mark, while on the power play. Drew Persson scored his fourth goal of the season, with Corey Tropp picking up the lone assist. The Pirates took a 4-2 lead at the 18:14 mark. Mancari tallied his 22nd goal of the season, while Persson and Adam got the assists. Portland finished the scoring with an empty net goal at the 19:55 mark from Mancari, his 23rd of the season. Dennis McCauley had the lone assist as the Pirates went onto the 5-2 victory.
Matt Dalton stopped 27 of 31 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 33 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
