SAN ANTONIO (February 9, 2009) - San Antonio Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that they have released defenseman Steve Ward from his professional tryout offer (PTO) signed on February 3.
Ward played in four games with the Rampage and was minus-1 with four shots on goal.
Ward, 22, played with the Reading Royals (ECHL) prior to joining the Rampage where he posted six goals and 16 assists in 30 games and was selected to the 2009 ECHL All-Star team. The 6-foot, 187-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, began the season playing in three games, collecting one assist, with the Albany River Rats (AHL).
The second-year pro split the 2007-08 season with the River Rats appearing in 28 games (1 goal, 7 assists) and the Florida Everblades (ECHL) playing in 45 games (1 goal, 13 assists). Prior to turning pro in 2007, Ward spent five seasons in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting and the Plymouth Whalers. During his junior hockey career he posted 37 goals and 84 assists in 249 career games.
