First Place Bears Host Hamilton This Wednesday

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club continues to lead the AHL in victories as the second week of February begins. The BEARS, with 35 wins in 52 games, lead the East Division by seven points over Wilkes- Barre/Scranton.

The BEARS welcome the Hamilton Bulldogs to town Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., Hamilton's only appearance at GIANT Center this season. Following a trip to Binghamton Friday, HERSHEY will host the Norfolk Admirals Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

One more game in Philly: HERSHEY defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms 5-3 Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum in south Philadelphia. The BEARS have one more trip to the corner of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, closing the venerable hockey facility on April 10. The Spectrum will be razed after this season, and HERSHEY will play in the final regular season hockey game there.

Setting their sights on history: The BEARS won twice last week, raising the club's win total to 35 in 52 games played this season. Bob Woods and company need 17 wins in its final 28 games to set a new franchise record for wins in a single season. The 2006-07 club won 51 games en route to an East Division championship and a second consecutive Calder Cup Finals appearance.

Senator sightings: The BEARS will spend a good amount of time in February in the southern tier of New York, facing the Binghamton Senators three times up north this month. HERSHEY will play at Broome County this Friday, February 25 and February 27 before finishing the eight-game season series on March 27. Binghamton played its fourth and final game of the regular season at GIANT Center back on December 27.

Roster movement: The Capitals assigned left wing Alexandre Giroux and goaltender Michal Neuvirth to HERSHEY on Sunday. Neuvirth served as backup goaltender to Jose Theodore in three games last week for Washington.

Washington update: The Capitals head to Manhattan this Wednesday night to take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Face-off Wednesday is at 7:00 p.m. Washington then will spend Valentine's Day in Tampa, facing the Lightning Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The Caps lead the Southeast Division by 13 points over Carolina.
