Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Grizzlies fell to 0-3 on the young season with a 5-4 loss to San Antonio in front of 6,393 fans at the E-Center. The win improved the Rampage's record to 1-1.

Utah drew first blood with a power play goal by David Oliver assisted by Jim Montgomery and Jon Sim. For Oliver, it was his first goal of the season and first as a member of the Grizzlies. San Antonio answered quickly with a goal by Filip Novak at the 7:18 mark of the opening period.

With the score tied at one goal apiece, San Antonio took their first lead of the night with a rebound goal by Jim Campbell off a saved shot by Corey Hirsch off Jeff Toms. The goal by Campbell came on the power play and was his first of the season. Utah would come storming back to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Defenseman John Erskine knotted the game with his second goal of the year on a blast from just inside the blueline. Fellow defenseman Alexei Komarov later scored his first ever AHL goal giving Utah a 3-2 lead.

The Rampage would tie the score early in the third period on Novak's second goal of the game. San Antonio would rattle off two more goals late in the period, one by David Morisset and the other by Juraj Kolnik, which would prove to be the game- winner.

Utah would pull Hirsch in the final minute of the period and take advantage of the extra skater as Jon Sim would take a pass from Alexei Komarov and spin a shot past San Antonio goaltender Chris Mason. The Grizzlies would not pull any close as the Rampage were able to control play after Sim's goal and take home the victory.

Sim added three assists to go with his goal, while linemate Jim Montgomery had three assists giving him five helpers on the season.

The Rampage outshot the Grizzlies 39-34 despite Utah taking a 14-9 advantage in the third period.

Three Stars: 1. Juraj Kolnik (Rampage) GWG 2. Filip Novak (Rampage) two goals 3. Jim Montgomery (Grizzlies) four assists
