Augusta Lynx News Release

AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta Lynx fell to the Columbus Cottonmouths on Friday night by a final score of 4-3 before a crowd of 2,861. It was the first regulation victory in Columbus Cottonmouths franchise history against the Augusta Lynx.

The Cottonmouths grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Brent Cullaton would bank a shot off the post, and then an Augusta Lynx defenseman, and into the net for a power play goal at the 4:57 mark of the first. Carlyle Lewis would make it 2-0 at the 8:48 mark, to finish a period that saw the Cottonmouths score twice and outshot Augusta 13-4.

The Cottonmouths would chase Lynx starting goalie Josh Blackburn out of the game by scoring twice early in the second on goals by J.J. Hunter and Andrew Long making it 4-0. Geoffrey Faulkner would come into replace Blackburn. The Lynx answered on a powerplay goal by Darryl Laplante, his first as a Lynx, at the 8:56 marker of the third. A goal by Kevin Brown with :47 left in the second cut the lead to 4-2 after two.

The Lynx scored just 1:28 into the third a Patrick Yetman's 2nd goal of the season making it 4-3, but that was as close as Augusta could get. The Lynx finished 1-7 on the powerplay while Columbus went 2-3. Matias Kostur picked up his pro win in goal for Columbus.

The Lynx entertain the Greensboro Generals Saturday night at 7:35PM at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. For ticket information contact the Lynx ticket office at 724-4423.
