Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm ran the team's record to 2-0-1 and jumped into first place in the East Coast Hockey League's Northwest Division with a 4-2 victory tonight over the Johnstown Chiefs.

Toledo opened the scoring with a power play goal at 4:09 of the first period, when Nick Parillo scored his third goal in as many games for the Storm with a blistering snap shot under the bar that beat Johnstown goaltender, Peter Aubry (2-1-0), stick side. At 15:09 of the second period, the Storm went up 2-0, when Mike Bayrack made a power move to the net around a Johnstown defender and forced a backhander through Aubry. With time ticking away in the second period and the Storm a man short (and the delayed penalty on), Alexandre Jacques corralled a loose puck low in the left circle, and he, too, ripped one under the bar to build a three goal lead for the Storm.

Johnstown came back in the early stages of the third period with back-to-back goals 19 seconds apart (at 3:13 and 3:32)-the first a snap shot by Jason Spence out of the left circle that snuck through traffic; and the second a deft deflection by Steve Hildenbrand of a wrist shot from the point. But Toledo's rookie goaltender, Brian Finley (2-0-1), held fast down the stretch, and Tim Verbeek took the air out of the Chiefs' comeback bid with 4:54 remaining, when he stole a loose puck on the left-wing half wall and beat Aubry with a 30 foot snap shot.
