Stingrays Add Ryan Brindley

South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that defenseman Ryan Brindley has been activated for the Stingrays home opener against the Columbus Cottonmouths tomorrow night. Brindley missed the first two games of the Stingrays campaign due to a family emergency, which forced the third year Stingray to fly to Ontario last week.

"Having Ryan back on the blue line will really help our team in all facets of the game," explained Fitzsimmons. "Ryan plays even strength, power play, penalty kill and four on four. His tenacity should really give us a lift.

Brindley led the Stingrays defense a year ago when he scored 17 goals and added 30 assists for 47 points in 72 games. He joined the Rays as a free agent in 2000 and played 48 games for the team that season, scoring 10 goals and chipping in for 27 assists. The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario has spent 24 games over the past two seasons in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans.

The addition of Brindley gives the Stingrays a 19-man roster and leaves Fitzsimmons with a choice to make before tomorrow's game. By league rules, the Rays can only dress 18 per game.

"Having a healthy scratch motivates the entire team," noted Fitzsimmons. "Everyone wants to play and no one wants to sit out. This assures us of having maximum effort as long as we can stay healthy.

Game time for tomorrow's game at the North Charleston Coliseum is 7:30. Tickets are still available at 554-6060 or at the coliseum box office. Fans can tune in to all the play-by-play action beginning at 7:05 on News Talk 1250 WTMA or stingrayshockey.com.
