TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: First of nine meetings, four here. 'Gades were 2-2 vs. Charlotte last season. Two of the four games went to overtime. Checkers were second in the league in goals per game last season (3.6). Charlotte advanced to the second round of the playoffs last season. Takahito Suzuki had a hat trick on opening night for the Checkers. Charlotte won at home on opening night 5-2 vs. Greenville but the ECHL ruled the game a forfeit win for the Grrrowl due to the Checkers using an ineligible player.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades lost 3-1 at Augusta Tuesday. Richmond fell behind 1-0 in the first period but tied the game early in the third on a goal by Brian Goudie. The Lynx went ahead to stay with a five-on-three power play goal and added insurance with a shorthanded goal. The ‘Gades outshot the Lynx 32-26. Charlotte on the ice won their home opener but due to forfeit comes in with an 0-1 record.

‘GADES NOTES: Richmond plays the first of back to back home games tonight. The ‘Gades play 10 of their first 13 games on the road. Last season the ‘Gades finished with a better record on the road than at home. The ‘Gades have won their last four home openers. The 'Gades dressed seven rookies in the lineup on opening night. Ryan Van Buskirk, Milt Mastad, and Jon Zion made their Renegade debuts Tuesday. Van Buskirk was assigned to Richmond over the weekend by the Washington Capitals. Zion and Mastad were delayed by INS paperwork. The ‘Gades traded Rich Spiller to Jackson for future considerations and waived Justin Van Parys just prior to Tuesday's game. Van Parys was claimed by Lexington. Brad Church returns to the ‘Gades lineup tonight after missing Tuesday's game due to the birth of his second son. Peter Hogan has been released by Utah of the AHL and is expected to join the ‘Gades tomorrow night. The ‘Gades now have 19 players on the roster. Richmond has out-shot their last two opponents. Renegades Head Coach Gord Dineen will have two regular radio shows this season. Catch Gord on WXGI with Big Al Coleman every Tuesday at 7:52 AM. Gord will also visit with Sports Radio 910's Mike Maniscalco every Thursday at 6:05 PM.

CHECKERS NOTES: Charlotte returns seven players from last season's club. The Ckeckers acquired two players this week, C Curtis Valentine and D Danny Powell. Konrad McKay will not play tonight as he serves the fourth of a five game ECHL suspension for an altercation in a preseason game. Tonight Charlotte plays the first of four straight games against the ECHL's two Virginia clubs. The Checkers have six pro rookies in their lineup and Takahito Suzuki who is playing his first North American pro season after playing pro hockey in his native Japan. Don MacAdam is back for his third full season as the Checkers head coach. Charlotte is a New York Rangers affiliate. The Checkers were 41-20-11 for 93 points last season.

NEXT UP: The ‘Gades host Trenton tomorrow night at 7:35 (7:20 air time 100.3 FM). Richmond visits Charlotte for the first time next Wednesday. The Checkers travel to Roanoke tomorrow night.
