Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. - The Peoria Rivermen opened up the first of back-to-back games against the San Antonio Rampage with a 3-1 loss on Friday night at Carver Arena. It was the first loss of the season for the Rivermen against San Antonio (3-0-0-1) and the first time the Rampage had won in Peoria since Dec. 27, 2008.

The loss pushed the Rivermen losing streak to three games, the first time this season they have lost three consecutive games in regulation. Peoria has scored a combined three goals over the last three games.

Goaltender Justin Pogge and winger Brett MacLean led the charge for the Rampage as Pogge lost his shutout bid with less than a minute to play and MacLean had a hand in all three San Antonio goals. The Rampage did all of their damage in the second period with a power-play goal and two at even strength.

Already on a penalty-kill, Cam Paddock was called for delay of game to setup the Rampage on a five-on-three advantage just 44 seconds into the second period. San Antonio head coach Ray Edwards called for a timeout and it paid off with his team converting just 26 seconds later. Shaun Heshka cruised in from the blue line and slid a pass to MacLean at the side of the goal for a tap-in.

The two even-strength goals came just 1:02 apart at 12:12 and 13:14 to give the Rampage a 3-0 lead. Andrew Orpik jabbed a MacLean rebound past Ben Bishop and then MacLean redirected Heshka's slapshot from the point for his 22nd of the season.

Lars Eller broke up Pogge's shutout bid with 26.3 seconds to play. On the power-play Pascal Pelletier slid a puck through traffic to Eller who punched it in from a sharp angle. Aaron Palushaj, playing in his first game back after missing 14 with an injury, also earned an assist on the play.

Peoria finished 1-for-7 on the power play while San Antonio was 1-for-5. The Rivermen outshot the Rampage in the second and third periods and finished the game ahead of them 28-21.
