
Chicago surges past Texas

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (29-17-3-4, 65 Points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (31-17-0-4, 66 Points) 4-1 in front of 5,279 fans at Cedar Park Center. Chicago right wing Joey Crabb scored once and added two assists, pushing the Wolves into second place in the West Division, one point behind Rockford. Stars goalie Todd Ford (4-3-1) stopped 31 of 35 Chicago shots. Wolves' goalie Peter Mannino (16-3-0) made 15 saves for his eighth straight victory. Stars forward Travis Morin scored the lone Texas goal in the defeat. Texas will host the Wolves in a rematch on Saturday, February 13th at 7:00 PM.
Texas took a 1-0 lead just 19 seconds into the first period. Center Travis Morin fired a shot from the left-wing circle, beating goalie Peter Mannino. Morin's team-leading 14th goal of the season was assisted by Colton Scevior and Greg Rallo. Chicago countered during a power-play opportunity at 10:31 of the first period. Winger Anthony Stewart received a pass from Joey Crabb in the crease and sent a shot past Stars goalie Todd Ford for a 1-1 tie.
The Wolves scored the lone goal of the second period, jumping ahead 2-1. Chicago center Jason Krog scored in the crease from a backdoor pass from Anthony Stewart. Krog's tenth goal of the year came with 3:04 left in the game.
Chicago increased the lead to 3-1 after center Matt Anderson muscled a shot from the high slot, beating Ford on his left side 39 seconds into the third period. Chris Chelios and Ivan Vishnevskiy assisted Crabb's second point of the night. The Wolves extended the lead to 4-1 at 3:11 when Crabb found the puck in front of the net and beat Ford on the gloveside. Crabb's 19th goal of the year was unassisted.
The Stars will conclude a five-home game stretch on Saturday, February 13th with a rematch against the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, the State Farm Family Four-Pack will be available for purchase and includes four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44.00. Texas will begin a five-game road trip starting on Tuesday, February 16th in Hamilton. The Stars return home on Friday, February 26th at 7:30 PM to host the Houston Aeros in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff.
