Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Jaroslav Janus made 24 saves for his first professional shutout to lead the Norfolk Admirals (26-24-3-1) past the Lowell Devils (29-19-4-2) 3-0 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals will finish off a six-game homestand tomorrow night with a rematch against the Devils. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a series two Admirals trading card set courtesy of 96X.

The Admirals opened scoring 11:58 into the first period. Mitch Fadden sent a shot from the slot that bounced off Lowell goaltender Jeff Frazee and popped out to his right. Mark Parrish had his back to the goaltender but spotted the puck at his feet. He collected the puck on his backhand and spun around to shoot as he fell to the ice. The puck slid beneath the prone goaltender's legs and into the net for Parrish's thirteenth goal of the season.

Norfolk's lead doubled at 17:40 with a power play goal. Vladimir Mihalik sent a pass from the right point toward the right corner. The pass hit the skate of Justin Keller in the corner and bounced toward the goalmouth and into the low slot. Juraj Simek found it and fired a shot over the right leg of Frazee for his fourteenth goal of the season.

Dana Tyrell made it 3-0 Admirals with a highlight reel shorthanded goal at 17:37 of the second period. Newcomer Zach Tarkir forced a turnover behind Janus and Tyrell collected the puck in the left circle. He sped through the neutral zone and crossed the Lowell blueline at the right point. As he approached the right faceoff dot, he stopped suddenly to allow a teammate to approach the net before rifling a wrist shot over the blocker of Frazee and just under the crossbar for his third goal of the season.

Janus stopped all 12 shots he faced in his most difficult period, as the Devils poured on the attack in the second stanza. The second-ranked power play in the AHL received four opportunities in the period but were turned aside each time by the league's fourth-ranked penalty kill.

Janus then turned aside all seven shots he faced in the third period to wrap up the shutout.

Jaroslav Janus (24 shots, 24 saves) earned his first shutout as a professional and his fourth win of the season. Jeff Frazee (41 shots, 38 saves) was solid but took the loss.

Norfolk was 1-9 on the power play. Lowell was 0-6.

The Admirals will finish off a six-game homestand tomorrow night with a rematch against the Devils. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a series two Admirals trading card set courtesy of 96X.
