Admirals Fall to Ice Hogs
February 12, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--The Milwaukee Admirals surrendered a pair of second period goals and could only get one of them back en route to a 4-2 loss to the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at the Bradley Center in the first game of a home-and-home series with the Hogs.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the third, the Admirals picked up a goal from Hugh Jessiman, but couldn't get the equalizer in spite of buzzing the Rockford net for most of the final stanza.
Rockford was able to jump on Milwaukee with a first period goal at the 8:34 mark. The IceHogs got on the score board with a slapshot that bounded toward Admirals goalie Chet Pickard before being deflected off the stick of a screening Evan Brophey into the net over Pickard's stick side shoulder.
Milwaukee maintained their composure and with less than three minutes left in the first Hugh Jessiman was able to chase down the puck behind the IceHogs net. Jessiman tactfully located Jon Blum who stick handled before finding Triston Grant in front of the net for Grant's ninth goal of the season at 17:39 in the first period.
Rockford retook the lead in the second period on a power play goal off of a Teemu Laakso interference penalty. From behind the Milwaukee net, former Admiral Bracken Kearns assisted Rockford's Kyle Greentree, as Greentree snuck one through Pickard's five-hole from the left of the Admirals crease. The goal put Rockford back in front at 2-1.
The IceHogs took a 3-1 lead when Jake Dowell pushed the puck up the right side. Dowell dished to Klinkhammer in the slot who fired an errant shot that was placed in the net by Dowell as he crashed the net on the right side. The goal proved the game winner as Rockford took a lead which they would not surrender.
Milwaukee played more aggressively in the third period, generating twice as many shots as in the second (12). The effort brought Milwaukee within one goal of tying the game as an outstanding effort by Ben Guite in the slot enabled the Admirals to hold the zone. Guite dove with an outstretched stick and found Hugh Jessiman in a prime spot in front of the net. Jessiman's goal brought Milwaukee within a goal at 3-2, but this was all the offense Milwaukee could summon on this night. Richard Petiot added an additional empty net goal with 16 seconds remaining in the third period to end the game.
The Admirals and IceHogs finish a home-and-home series in Rockford on Saturday night, before the Ads host San Antonio on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm at the Bradley Center.
