
Senators Recall Defencemen Brian Lee And Derek Smith From Binghamton

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators today recalled defencemen Brian Lee and Derek Smith under emergency conditions from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Lee, who is being recalled for the second time in 2009-10, has played 13 games for Ottawa this season, recording two goals, one assist, six penalty minutes and a -1 rating. In 72 career NHL games (all with the Senators), the Moorhead, Minn., native has registered 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) while amassing 43 penalty minutes. In 27 AHL games with Binghamton this season, the 22-year-old has three goals, six assists and 35 penalty minutes.
Smith, who is being recalled to the NHL for the first time in his career, ranks first among B-Sens defencemen in scoring with 30 points (six goals, 24 assists) and has appeared in all but two of the team's 47 games this season. A native of Belleville, Ont., Smith is currently in his third professional season (all with the B-Sens) and has played 172 AHL games, recording 67 points (15 goals, 52 assists) and 87 penalty minutes. He was originally signed by the Senators as a free agent on April 12, 2007, after completing his collegiate career with Lake Superior State University.
The Senators next see action on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they travel to Detroit to face the Red Wings at 7 p.m. The B-Sens visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight at 7:05 p.m.
