SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (24-28-8-0) dropped a 5-1 decision to the Pacific Division-leading Ontario Reign (33-14-3-1) in front of 5,350 at the AT&T Center on Sunday. Cody Corbett tallied the lone goal for the Rampage, who fall to 8-16-3-0 at home on the season.
The Reign lit the lamp just 10 seconds into the contest, as Jordan Samuels-Thomas found the back of the net for the fastest goal allowed in Rampage history. Sean Backman made it 2-0 near the midway point of the period, slipping the puck under the pads of Roman Will for his 17th of the season. Nic Dowd's wrister less than four minutes later gave the Reign a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.
After allowing three goals on the first six shots of the game, Roman Will was replaced in the second period by Reto Berra. The Reign opened the second-period scoring in the seventh minute of the frame when Michael Mersch notched his team-leading 20th marker of the season to give Ontario a 4-0 lead, a score that would hold after 40 minutes of play.
Vincent LoVerde's blast from the high slot at 6:09 of the final frame extended Ontario's lead to five. San Antonio got on the board late in the stanza, as Corbett, who was recalled from the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, buried his second of the season to make it 5-1, which would hold as the final score.
Berra finished with 21 saves on 23 shots, and San Antonio was scoreless on six opportunities with the man advantage.
Notes
With the primary assist on Corbett's third-period tally, Reid Petryk recorded his 50th AHL point.
Lineup Notes
The Rampage line combinations remained unchanged from Friday's matchup against the Manitoba Moose with the exception of the fourth line, which consisted of Troy Bourke and Dan Maggio, as Patrick Bordeleau was out with an illness.
