
Tom Kostopoulos Makes History, Reaches Rare Milestone

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' captain, Tom Kostopoulos, is now among exclusive company in hockey's history books.
On Sunday, Mar. 6 against the Hershey Bears, Kostopoulos played his 600th career AHL game, making him the fourth player ever to reach both 600 NHL games and 600 AHL games.
Previous players to achieve the 600/600 milestone are Dave Creighton, Jim Morrison, and Shawn Thornton. Creighton accomplished the feat in 1967, Morrison in 1971, and Thornton did it last year in 2015.
Through 600 AHL contests, the 37-year-old Kostopoulos has 177 goals, 271 assists, 448 total points, and 887 penalty minutes. Of those 600 games, 536 have come with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Kostopoulos has 157 points (61G-96A) in 630 NHL games played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Montréal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames, and New Jersey Devils.
The Mississauga, Ont. native was a part of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's inaugural season in 1999-2000, and has spent five seasons wearing the captain's "C" for the Penguins.
