The IceHogs are coming into tonight's contest after defeating the Monsters 5-0 last night. Goaltender Michael Leighton set the American Hockey League all-time record for career shutouts, recording his 46th blank sheet with the win.
Last night, the IceHogs came out firing on all cylinders in the second period, pounding 12 of their 24 shots on the night within the stanza, as well as four of the five goals scored. P.C. Labrie recorded a two-goal night, while Bryan Bickell notched his fourth game-winning goal of the season. Newcomer, Matt Fraser who was acquired in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets last weekend, made his IceHogs debut and earned an assist.
Tonight, the IceHogs will look to sweep the Monsters in the weekend series, as well as end their home slate against the Cleveland squad with a perfect four-win record. Rockford got a pair of 3-1 victories over Lake Erie earlier this season on Nov. 22 and Jan. 18.
Last night's win over the Monsters marked the first regulation loss for Lake Erie after going seven-straight games without falling within 60 minutes. The defeat also snapped Daniel Zaar's point streak, in which the right winger notched five points (4g-1a) in five games from Feb. 25 to Mar. 3.
Next Home Game: Mar. 8 vs. Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. The IceHogs face the Admirals for the second time within a two-week span. The contest is another "Winning Weekday." If the IceHogs win, every fan in attendance will receive a free ticket of equal or lesser value to the contest on Mar. 15 against the Charlotte Checkers. Fans can also enjoy $2 beers, sodas, hot dogs, and companion tickets.
