San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (March 11, 2012) - San Antonio Rampage defenseman Colby Robak led a late rally in the third but the Rampage couldn't overcome the Lake Erie Monsters falling by a score of 3-2 Sunday evening at the AT&T Center.
Lake Erie left wing Patrick Rissmiller put the Monsters on the scoreboard first at the 8:43 mark of the opening period. He redirected a Mike Brennan shot from the point past Rampage backstop Dov Grumet-Morris to give Lake Erie a 1-0 advantage. Defenseman Dallas Jackson picked up the secondary assist on Rissmiller's 10th marker of the year.
The Monsters extended their lead to 2-0 nearly three minutes into the second frame. With Lake Erie shorthanded, left wing Greg Mauldin skated in on a breakaway and lifted a backhander over Grumet-Morris to register his 13th goal of the season.
San Antonio left wing Evan Barlow cut the Lake Erie advantage to 2-1 with a power-play tally 5:12 into the second. Right wing Michal Repik corralled a loose puck near the left circle and sent a pass into the crease that banked off of Barlow's skate and into the net. Robak notched the secondary assist on Barlow's 10th goal of 2011-12.
Before the second period expired, Lake Erie restored their two-goal lead at 3-1 with a power-play marker from forward Brad Malone. He took a feed from former Rampage left wing Peter MacArthur and beat Grumet-Morris blocker side to pot his ninth goal of the season at 18:56. Mauldin recorded his second point of the night with the secondary assist on the play.
Robak scored at the 15:37 mark of the third to make the count 3-2 in favor of Lake Erie. His shot from the right circle eluded Monsters backstop Cedric Desjardins to bring San Antonio to within one goal of Lake Erie. The assists on Robak's eighth marker of the year went to forward Greg Rallo and center Wacey Rabbit.
Desjardins turned aside 23 of 25 Rampage shots for his 12th win of the season while Grumet-Morris made 22 stops on 25 Lake Erie attempts in the San Antonio loss.
The Rampage (33-24-3-1) are back in action on Friday when they host the Abbotsford Heat at 7 p.m. (CST) at the AT&T Center.
