
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 5-4

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Kyle MacKinnon, Carter Camper, Craig Cunningham and Colby Cohen. The P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, March 18 at 4:05 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons for Kid's T-Shirt Night.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead at the 8:13 mark of the opening period. Andy Miele tallied his 11th goal of the season, while Brett Sterling and Mathieu Beaudoin recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 9:32 mark, while on the power play. Andrew Bodnarchuk had the puck at the point and worked it down the boards to Kirk MacDonald. He passed it to the far faceoff circle for MacKinnon, who put it into the back of the net for his 11th goal of the season. Portland retook the lead at the 11:48 mark. Jordan Szwarz netted his seventh goal of the season, while Ashton Rome picked up the lone assist. The Pirates made it 3-1 at the 17:03 mark, while on the power play. Ryan Duncan scored his 14th goal of the season, with Alexandre Bolduc and Matt Watkins getting the assists. Portland led 3-1 going into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 3:31 mark of the third period, while on the power play. Cohen had the puck at the blue line and shot it towards the net. It was redirected on its way toward the net to MacKinnon. He passed it in front to Camper, who picked it up and scored his 15th goal of the season. Providence tied the game at three at the 5:05 mark. Kevan Miller cleared the puck out of his own zone and worked it into the neutral zone for Josh Hennessy. He passed it up ahead to Cunningham giving the P-Bruins an odd man rush. Cunningham kept the puck himself and buried it into the back of the net for his 16th goal of the season. Portland went ahead 4-3 at the 6:28 mark. Evan Bloodoff tallied his sixth goal of the season, while Mathieu Brodeur and Ethan Werek had the assists. The Pirates took a two goal advantage at the 15:22 mark. Rome netted his sixth goal of the season, while Szwarz and Kenndal McArdle grabbed the assists. Providence battled back to pull within a goal at the 19:44 mark. Hennessy had the puck halfway up the boards and passed it to Cohen in the high slot, who scored his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins were unable to score in the final 16 seconds and fell 5-4.
Michael Hutchinson stopped 13 of 18 saves for the P-Bruins, while Peter Mannino made 45 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 2-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
