San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage erupted for three second-period goals to break the game open as they capped 2007 with a statement victory over Interstate-10 rival Houston Aeros Saturday night at the AT&T Center.
Seven players registered multi-point games, and goaltender Josh Tordjman made 30 saves in a 6-1 triumph to keep the Rampage unbeaten (2-0-0-1) at the AT&T Center against the Aeros this season.
Nate DiCasmirro put the Rampage (19-11-2-3; 43 points) up early with his second goal in as many games just 70 seconds into the game. Houston tied the score at 1-1 off Joel Ward's goal at 11:37 of the first period, but from there it was all San Antonio.
The scoring stampede in the second period began with a goal from right wing Matt Murley, who found the loose puck off a rebound and put it by Houston netminder Barry Brust while falling to the ice for a 2-1 lead at 9:07 of the frame. His marker was the first of three points for Murley on the night-tops in the game.
Josh Gratton continued the barrage with a power-play goal in a scrum around the net at 11:48 to make it a 3-1 San Antonio advantage. The score, assisted by Murley and Joey Tenute, was Gratton's fifth of the season and his second point of the night, after helping on DiCasmirro's first-period goal.
Four players amassed two points with 3:42 remaining in the second period after center Cam Paddock lit the lamp with a slapshot to make it 4-1. DiCasmirro collected an assist, his second point of the night, and Tyler Redenbach recorded his first point with the Rampage this season with a helper.
The rout would continue in the third period in a game that featured a second consecutive matchup between third and fourth-place, the Rampage and Houston respectively, in the AHL's West Division. San Antonio defeated Milwaukee 5-3 Thursday night in the previous three-four West battle.
Rampage's David Spina, who went down on a kneeing penalty committed by Houston earlier in the game, scored 38 seconds into the final frame. Spina received a pass from Murley, who collected his third point of the night with the helper, and poked in a backhanded wrister from the slot to push the lead to 5-1. With the goal, Spina tallied his second point of the night.
Tenute became the seventh player to record multiple points when he hit center Jon DiSalvatore in stride, who slapped home the pass at 7:35 of the third for the sixth Rampage goal of the night.
Paddock (1 goal, 1 assist), and left wing Chris Durno (2 assists) were also part of the seven-player tandem. The win was Tordjman's 10th of the season, as the Rampage outshot their opponent for a sixth straight game. They have gone 4-2-0-0 during that stretch.
The Rampage stretched their lead to six points for third place with their 19th win of the season. San Antonio will return to action at 7 p.m. next Saturday when they host the Iowa Stars.
