December 29, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY) - Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant will participate in the ceremonial faceoff at the Rochester Americans' American Hockey League game on Sunday, December 30th at The Blue Cross Arena. The 6:05 p.m. contest is against the rival Syracuse Crunch.
In 2007, Grant led Rochester to its second NLL championship. Rochester captured the 2007 NLL Champion's Cup on May 12th, defeating the Arizona Sting 13-11 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The win was the team's 15th straight and capped a 17-2 season.
Grant had a banner year capturing his first scoring title with 111 points and winning the goal-scoring title with 51. He was also named the Championship Game MVP and became the first Knighthawk to earn regular-season MVP honors. Further, he was named a First Team All-Pro to earn league all-pro honors for the seventh time in his career.
The Peterborough, Ontartio, native holds the franchise's all-time records for goals (347), assists (372) and points (719) in 109 games. In addition, he is sixth all-time in league history in points, fifth in goals and seventh in assists.
The defending champion Knighthawks begin their 14th season with a home-and-home series against the rival Buffalo Bandits. The game is a rematch of last year's East Division Finals. Rochester opens the season on Friday, January 11th at HSBC Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK and whtk.com. On Saturday, January 12th, the Knighthawks will raise their championship banner prior to hosting the Bandits at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The contest is only available via the B2 Networks.
