Locke becomes all-time leading scorer in 'Dogs loss

HAMILTON, ON - With a goal in the second period, Corey Locke (63-117-180) registered his 180th career point and surpassed Brian Swanson (71-108-179) to become Hamilton's all-time leading scorer, but it wasn't enough as the Toronto Marlies won 4-3 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. With the loss, the ‘Dogs record drops to 10-14-1-5 on the season.

The Marlies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period. John Mitchell opened the scoring at 4:20 of the frame when he fired a high shot past Bulldogs netminder Jaroslav Halak on the glove side. Robbie Earl then posted his 10th goal of the campaign at the 8:51 mark to put the Marlies up by two.

Hamilton cut the lead in half at 14:05 of the opening stanza courtesy of Eric Manlow's fourth goal of the season. Francis Lemieux and Duncan Milroy drew assists on Manlow's goal.

Toronto regained its two-goal lead at 16:53 of the first period when Alex Foster one-timed a shot into the back of the net. Kris Newbury and Bryan Muir earned assists on the play.

The Bulldogs scored two second-period goals to tie the game 3-3. At the 9:43 mark, Corey Locke tallied his ninth goal of the campaign to become Hamilton's all-time leading scorer and make the score 3-2. Marvin Degon then evened the score at 3-3 when banged home a rebound past Justin Pogge at 13:18 of the period.

Newbury restored Toronto's lead at 14:53 of the second frame with his team-leading 12th goal of the campaign. Muir, who earned his third assist of the night, and Alex Foster picked up helpers on the eventual game-winning goal.

There was no scoring in the third period as the Marlies held on for a 4-3 win.

The Bulldog's went 0-for-3 with the man advantage and were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Between the pipes, Halak stopped 28 of 32 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while his counterpart Justin Pogge allowed three goals on 26 shots in a winning effort for the Marlies.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action on New Year's Eve (Monday, December 31st) when they travel to Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids to take on the Griffins at 7:00 p.m. Fans can listen to every Bulldogs game on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, 820 CHAM.
