Brookbank Heads Up To Raleigh

Albany River Rats News Release


ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Wade Brookbank has been recalled to the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. The River Rats also announced that the Hurricanes have returned left wing Brandon Nolan to the River Rats.

Brookbank, 30, has played in 25 games for Albany thus far in the 2007-08 season, tallying two assists and 28 penalty minutes, while splitting time between defense and forward. The Lanigan, Saskatchewan native has played 68 career NHL games, most recently in the 2006-07 season with seven games for the Boston Bruins. Brookbank is expected to be in the Hurricanes' lineup Saturday night as Carolina travels to Ohio to face off with the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:00 pm.

Nolan, 24, made his NHL debut for Carolina on Saturday, December 22nd in Tampa Bay, recording his first career NHL point with an assist in the Hurricane's 4-1 win over the Lightning. The St. Catherine's, Ontario native played his second NHL game on Wednesday, December 26th, in Madison Square Garden, logging 7:14 of ice time in a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers. Nolan returns to the River Rats still tied for the team-lead in goals (11) and has 22 points in 29 games played for Albany this season.

The River Rats will square off with the East Division's first place Philadelphia Phantoms at 5:00 pm Saturday, December 29th at the Times Union Center. Sunday Albany travels to Toronto for a 4:00 pm face off with the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum.
