Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - The Norfolk Admirals (10-21-1-2) gave up four power play goals as they fell to the Hershey Bears (18-12-0-2) 6-1 on Saturday night at the Giant Center. The game was Norfolk's franchise-worst eighth straight loss.
The game started out well for the Admirals, as they scored on their first shot just 38 seconds into the game. Norm Milley sent a shot from the right half-wall that was tipped past Bears goaltender Daren Machesney by Justin Keller.
Hershey tied the game just over a minute later. Andrew Gordon sent a pass from the right corner to Grant Potulny in the slot. Potulny sent a wrist shot five-hole on Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin at 1:52 to knot the score at 1-1.
The Hershey power play took over from there. The Bears struck with a two-man advantage midway through the first period, as Joe Motzko's slap shot from the high slot found the net at 8:05. Ben Clymer also beat Boutin with a power play slap shot, this time from the top of the right circle on a five-on-four advantage at 19:24 of the first period.
Daren Machesney battened down the hatches in the second period, as the Admirals sent a season-high 19 shots on net in the period but were unable to beat the Bears backstop. Clymer netted his second power play goal of the game at 17:39 with another slap shot from the high slot through traffic.
The Bears netted two third period goals to close out scoring. Chris Bourque converted a Motzko feed on a two-on-one at 7:29. Scott Barney closed out scoring with Hershey's fourth power play goal at 13:58.
Jonathan Boutin (37 shots, 31 saves) suffered his ninth straight loss. Daren Machesney (32 shots, 31 saves) got the victory.
Norfolk was 0-8 on the power play. Hershey was 4-8.
The Admirals now travel north through the Keystone State for a New Year's Eve contest against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
