April 2, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (April 2, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (43-20-5-1) clinched their fourth playoff berth in franchise history and reclaimed the top spot in the Western Conference with a 5-4 win over the Adirondack Flames (32-28-6-2) in front of 6,654 at the AT&T Center Thursday night. The win, San Antonio's 43rd of the season, sets a new franchise record for wins in a season and extends the Rampage's winning streak to a franchise-high nine games.
Corban Knight, in his first game against his former team since being acquired by the Florida Panthers in a Jan. 9 trade, led the Silver and Black with two goals, earning the First Star of the Game. Quinton Howden added a goal and an assist, and Jesse Blacker finished with two helpers.
A first-period goal from Mark Mancari, who converted off a cross-ice pass from Brett Olson for his 13th tally of the season, gave the Rampage an early 1-0 lead. David Wolf scored on the power play to even the game at one at 5:19, but Wade Megan got the lead back for the Silver and Black, scoring off an Adirondack turnover to put San Antonio up 2-1 at the first intermission.
Less than two minutes into the second period, Corban Knight punched the puck past Doug Carr to give San Antonio a 3-1 lead. Wolf picked up his second of the night to bring Adirondack within one at the end of the frame.
San Antonio opened the third-period scoring, as Knight gave the Rampage a 4-2 lead at the 4:11 mark, notching his second of the night for his first multi-goal game of the season.
Logan Shaw's centering pass to the tape of Quinton Howden near the midway point of the period resulted in a goal, which was Howden's second of the season and gave the Silver and Black a 5-2 lead.
Mathieu Tousignant added a shorthanded goal to make it 5-3 at 14:04, and Ken Agostino scored with just over a minute remaining to bring the Flames within one, but that would end Adirondack's comeback bid, as the Rampage took the 5-4 victory.
San Antonio outshot the Flames 37-24, including a 15-6 margin in the opening period.
QUOTABLE
"It's important because it's a goal we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season. And we said there's nothing acceptable but making the playoffs." - Rampage coach Tom Rowe
LINEUP NOTES
Garrett Wilson was back in the lineup after missing two games with a minor injury and skated on the top line with Knight and Bobby Butler. The second line of Connor Brickley, Rocco Grimaldi and Dany Heatley remained in tact from Saturday's lineup, and John McFarland, Brett Olson and Mancari skated together on the third line. Andrew Yogan was a healthy scratch.
