Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Me. - Jordan Szwarz has been named the 2014-2015 Portland Pirates' IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year by Pirates coaches and staff. Szwarz, who was recalled by the Arizona Coyotes on March 23, was nominated for the award because of his dedication to community involvement and service this season. In addition to being named the Pirates' Man of the Year, he is also a finalist for the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award, for which the Yanick Dupre Award is presented.

The award is presented each year to honor the memory of late Hershey Bears player Yanick Dupre and to recognize the player that best embodies his spirit through community service.

Szwarz has spent a large part of his last four seasons playing for the Pirates and has gotten to know the local community. This season he has visited patients at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, schools in the Greater Portland area, visited a local animal shelter, and participated in several meet-and-greets and skates with fans. He is also known for participating in outreach programs during the off-season.

"Jordan's impact on the community has been widespread this season," said Pirates Community Marketing Manager Lindsay Covich. "His commitment to the Portland community outside the arena has been inspiring."

Szwarz, 23, has had an impressive season on and off the ice. The right-winger from Burlington, Ontario has played 42 games with the Pirates this season, scoring 9 goals and 12 assists. Since his call up to Arizona, he has played in 4 games with 1 goal. This is Szwarz's fourth season with the Pirates.

The winner of the Yanick Dupre Award will be decided by American Hockey League president, Dave Andrews, and will be announced prior to the end of the regular season.
