Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are proud to announce that Aaron Ness has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Bridgeport community during the 2014-15 season.

Ness is always the first to volunteer to go out into the community and do anything he can to give back. Whenever there is a team event or a community event with several players involved, Ness makes sure that not only he will be attending, but is the one to drive teammates with him as well.

In his fourth season with the Sound Tigers, Ness has participated in many community service projects, including school readings, after school ball hockey, fan-related events, hospital visits, skates with local hockey teams and many more. Ness is captain of the Sound Tigers not only for his on-ice contributions, but also for his great work away from the rink.

Ness is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2014-15 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League later this month.
