Tacoma, WA - John Andreoli launched a ninth inning solo bomb and Tacoma brought the tying run to the on-deck circle, but Jaycob Brugman was thrown out at third trying to advance on a single to end the contest as the Rainiers fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday, 14-11.

Entering the bottom of the ninth with the Rainiers (50-59) down five, Andreoli clubbed a two-out homer to left-center field, his sixth of the year. After back-to-back walks to Eric Filia and Brugman, Jordan Pacheco dumped a single into shallow right field. Filia crossed home on the play before Brugman was hosed at third by right fielder Brett Phillips for the final out.

Jake Fraley put the Rainiers on the board in the home half of the first when he singled home Ian Miller. An inning later, Kelby Tomlinson hit a double to right field that scored Santa to narrow the deficit, 4-2.

After Omaha (49-60) took a 9-2 advantage after 2 1/2 frames, Fraley doubled home Daniel Castro for the start of a third inning rally. Brugman singled home Fraley, followed by a Pacheco double that scored Filia, getting the Rainiers within 9-5.

Pacheco is riding an 11-game hitting streak and has collected at least one double in four of his last five outings. Since being assigned to Tacoma on June 21, the 33-year-old has collected hits in 17 of his 23 games played with the Rainiers.

The rally continued when Brugman scored off a ground out from Kevin Santa and Miller capped the seven-run frame with a three-run home run over the right field fence, scoring Kelby Tomlinson to knot the score, 9-9.

The seven-run third inning was Tacoma's first frame with six or more runs since scoring nine times in the eighth inning of a 12-3 victory over Salt Lake on June 29. The Rainiers have scored seven or more tallies in nine games this year, going 7-2 in those contests.

Southpaw Sean Nolin made the start for Tacoma and surrendered nine runs across three innings, but was taken off the hook for the loss with Tacoma's big third inning.

Andrew Moore (0-3) entered to start the fourth and spun the first scoreless half inning of the night for either team. The right-hander gave up Omaha's second grand slam of the game in the fifth inning and allowed the final Storm Chasers run in the seventh, giving up five runs across six innings and taking the loss.

The Rainiers will play for a series win in the rubber match against the Storm Chasers on Thursday at Cheney Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. PDT as right-hander Nabil Crismatt (0-3, 9.47) takes the mound in the series finale. Mike Curto will have full coverage on South Sound Talk 850 with audio streaming available on the Tacoma Rainiers TuneIn Radio Network.
