Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Heroes get remembered. But legends never die.

Especially on Sandlot Night at AutoZone Park on Friday, Aug. 16, with "Squints" (Chauncey Leopardi) scheduled to be in attendance.

"To say we're excited to have Squints at AutoZone Park for Sandlot Night is an understatement," Redbirds President Craig Unger said. "This movie and these characters are America in summertime to a 't.' We can't wait to enjoy some 'mallows, find ways to trick The Beast, and have a fun night we will all remember for-ev-er."

Squints is scheduled to do a meet-and-greet with fans from approximately 7-8:30 after he throws out a ceremonial first pitch, and he is also slated to lead the crowd in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the 7th inning stretch. After the game, fans are invited to remain in their seats for a showing of The Sandlot on the AutoZone Park videoboard.

Fans can purchase a specialty ticket that includes a Club Level ticket with a buffet in the Home Plate Club, a VIP Meet-and-Greet with Squints, and an exclusive Squints t-shirt.

Tickets for Sandlot Night can be purchased at www.memphisredbirds.com/sandlot.

The Sandlot was released in 1993 and tells the coming-of-age story of a group of friends who spend the summer of 1962 playing baseball, enjoying each other's company, and getting in and out of a little mischief.

Squints and his friends, such as Smalls, Ham, Yeah-Yeah, Benny the Jet, and the rest of the crew, remain a huge part of our culture 26 years later.
