Dodgers Take Game 2

The Oklahoma City Dodgers downed the Salt Lake Bees 5-3 on Wednesday night in front of 10,105 fans at Smith's Ballpark.

The Dodgers broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI-single to take a 1-0 advantage.

n the seventh frame, Oklahoma City extended the lead 3-0 on an RBI-single and a sacrifice fly. The Bees were able to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth and plated two runs on a single by Jarrett Parker to cut the lead to 3-2. With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Dodgers tacked on two runs to go up 5-2. Salt Lake started the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run by Taylor Ward, but Oklahoma City retired the next three batters to take game two of the series.

Salt Lake starter Nick Tropeano (2-5) turned in a solid start, but was tagged with the loss as he allowed only one run on four hits while striking out eight batters in five innings of work. Jason Alexander relieved Tropeano in the sixth inning and tossed three and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out two batters. Luke Bard entered the ninth for Alexander and surrendered two hits and an earned run. The Bees bats were led by Parker who drove in two runs after a 1-for-3 performance. With his solo shot in the ninth, Ward collected his 24th home run of the season. Josh Thole tallied a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-3 with a double against his former team. Salt Lake finished the month of July 12-15.

The Bees hosted over 4,000 young readers during the game as part of KSL Read Today Night. Students were challenged to complete a summer reading program of at least 20 minutes per day and rewarded with a ticket to Wednesday night's game for completing the program. The two teams will finish the series on Thursday night as the Bees celebrate all things Salt Lake with (801) night at the ballpark. Tickets and more information is available at www.slbees.com.
