Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Albuquerque, NM - The Tacoma Rainiers (3-6) dropped their second straight in Albuquerque on Thursday evening by an 11-8 final despite accumulating a season-high 16 hits, as the Isotopes (3-6) continue to avenge their home-opening loss earlier in the week.

Carlos Perez punctuated a three-hit Albuquerque first inning with a two-out, three-run homer to left field, his first of the year.

The Rainiers got on the board in the second, after Forrest Wall (3-for-5) singled, stole second, advanced to third base on an error and scored on a Marcus Wilson sac fly. ABQ made their lead insurmountable early however, when a pair of leadoff walks and a single by former Rainier Tim Lopes set the table for the 'Topes second grand slam of the series, to straight center by Colton Welker. His first long ball of the year made the score 7-1 after two innings.

Donnie Walton stroked the first Rainiers triple of the season to leadoff the visiting third, later scoring on a Mike Ford RBI groundout. Walton's night ended with three hits and a walk.

Lopes, who played in 95 games for Tacoma in 2019 around making his MLB debut with Seattle (41 games) had a five-hit night with four singles and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Perez had a pair of doubles to go with his homer, and Elehuris Montero (solo shot in the fourth) hit the second homer for Albuquerque, his third of the young season.

Isotopes starter Matt Dennis pitched 5.1 innings for the winning decision (5.1 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K), but allowed back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches to begin the sixth; Ford lifted his second of the year before Kevin Padlo followed suit with his first, marking the first Rainiers occasion of back-to-back jacks this season, and both were to the opposite field. The sixth inning rally continued with a Wall single, and he scored from first on a Mason McCoy (3-for-4) double.

Ford (4-for-5, 2 RBI) is 9-for-13 during this road trip. Wall scored his third run of the game in the eighth, leading off with a single and eventually scoring from second base on a Sam Haggerty RBI single. A Jonathan Morales RBI double and Lopes's fifth hit (run-scoring single) during the home eighth concluded the night's host scoring. Ford (single) and Padlo (two-run homer) teamed up again in the top of the ninth, as Padlo notched the first multi-homer game for Tacoma in 2022.

The fourth game of the series will be Friday; RHP Juan Mercedes (NR) is slated to make his Triple-A debut for the Rainiers, opposite Albuquerque's Zach Neal (RHP).

Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2022 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
