Salt Lake Bees News Release

Three Bees hit their first home runs of the season and Jhonathan Diaz allowed just one earned run over six innings of work as Salt Lake bounced back Thursday night, beating the Las Vegas Aviators 5-4.

Matt Thaiss hit the first home run of the night for the Bees on just the ninth pitch from Vegas' Brian Howard, giving Salt Lake an early 2-0 lead. The Aviators scored an unearned run in the third inning and would tie the game in the top of the seventh at 2-2.

It didn't stay that way for long however, as Luis Rengifo hit a 403-foot two-run bomb in the bottom half of the inning to put the Bees up 4-2. Vegas crept back within one in the eighth, but Dillon Thomas would get in on the action, launching a 430-foot solo shot to center field for his first of the season.

The Aviators added one more in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough as Salt Lake came away with the 5-4 victory. The two teams will be back on the field Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
