Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Aderlin Rodriguez hit a pair of three-run homers, including a walk-off blast in the ninth inning, sending the El Paso Chihuahuas to a 7-5 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Thursday night at Southwest University Park. Rodriguez helped stake the Chihuahuas (6-3) to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with his first three-run homer of the night. The Dodgers (5-4) overcame the four-run deficit and eventually took the lead in the eighth inning. Trailing 4-1 entering the frame, the Dodgers loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter before Jason Martin drew a bases-loaded walk. Tomás Telis followed with a single to center field and El Paso outfielder Luis Liberato also committed an error, as three runs scored on the play to give the Dodgers their first lead. After the first two batters of the bottom of the ninth inning reached base, Rodriguez stepped up with one out and clubbed the game-winning homer to right-center field.
Of Note:
-Thursday was the Dodgers' first walk-off defeat of the season. In 2021, the team suffered three walk-off losses, with the previous walk-off homer by Albuquerque's Brian Serven on May 23.
-The Dodgers were held to a season-low five hits and did not collect an extra-base hit for the first time this season. Entering Thursday, the team had tallied at least 11 hits in five straight games for a total of 63 hits during the stretch, including 27 extra-base hits.
-Tomás Telis collected a season-high three hits and two RBI, going 3-for-4. He entered the game 3-for-13 with one RBI over his first three games of the season.
-Kevin Pillar extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored. He reached base three times via a single, walk and hit by pitch. During the hitting streak, Pillar is 11-for-25 (.440) with seven RBI. Over the first three games of the current series, he is 6-for-9 with two walks and three RBI.
-Ryan Noda went 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored. The Triple-A rookie is off to a 10-for-26 (.385) start with eight walks and one HBP over his first 35 plate appearances (.543 OBP). He's currently on a six-game hitting streak, during which he's 9-for-19 with three homers and six RBI.
-After starting the season 5-1 and winning four straight entering Tuesday, the Dodgers have lost each of the first three games of the current series. They began 0-4 on the road last season before earning their first victory away from Oklahoma City.
-Each of the first three games of the series have been decided by one or two runs, with two last at-bats wins by the Chihuahuas. Thursday was also the Dodgers' first loss when leading after eight innings this season. In 2021, they were 60-1 when leading after eight innings.
