Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. -- Shawn O'Malley and Patrick Kivlehan each belted a pair of home runs as the Tacoma Rainiers powered past the Nashville Sounds 12-5 at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.

O'Malley was the first to go deep, breaking up a 1-1 tie with a two-out three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. He launched a second ball out of the ballpark in the eighth inning, this one a one-run shot to right field. The outing marked the first multi-homer game of O'Malley's career.

The first of Kivlehan's two home runs arrived as part of back-to-back solo blasts he and Stefen Romero hit to break up a 4-4 tie in the fifth. The outfielder went deep again in the eighth, delivering a two-run number that provided Tacoma an 11-4 advantage. He now leads the team with 21 home runs.

Leury Bonilla accounted for two of the four runs that did not arrive via the long ball. The third baseman erased a 1-0 Sounds lead with an RBI single in the first inning, and later drove in another run with a second base hit. He ended the night 3-for-4 with three singles, a run, and a pair of RBI.

Starter Forrest Snow (10-8) collected the win after holding Nashville to four runs on three hits through 5.0 innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked three in his 19th start and 28th appearance this season.

The Rainiers (63-70) host the second game of the team's four-game series with Nashville (60-73) tomorrow, August 28. Left-hander James Paxton (0-1, 13.50) is expected to make a second consecutive MLB rehab start for the Rainiers. The Sounds are slated to counter with right-hander Nathan Long (3-4, 5.17). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
