SALT LAKE CITY (August 28, 2015) - Salt Lake Bees head groundskeeper Brian Soukup and the Bees grounds crew earned a 2015 Pacific Coast League Sports Turf Management Presidential Commendation. The announcement made today by league president Branch Rickey honored Soukup, Kevin Asay, Ryan Heiner and the rest of the Bees grounds crew for their work preparing the field at Smith's Ballpark.

The award was voted on by field managers and on-field officials in the PCL, and is based not just on the overall quality of the playing surface, but also includes criteria such as pregame setup, field marking, professionalism of the grounds crew, along with grading in over a half-dozen other categories.

Andy Beggs of the El Paso Chihuahuas was named the PCL's 2015 Sports Turf Manager of the Year. Casey Griffin of the Albuquerque Isotopes also received a Presidential Commendation.

Earlier this season Smith's Ballpark was awarded as a Top 10 Ballpark in America by Better Homes and Gardens and a Top 25 Minor League Ballpark by Baseball America in part because of the excellence and beauty of the playing surface.

The Bees final homestand of 2015 begins on Monday, Aug. 31 and runs through Thursday, Sept. 3. Tickets for the final four games of the season are available with no online fees at www.slbees.com, at Smith's Tix locations or at the Smith's Ballpark box office.
