Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Sky Sox dropped their series-opener with the Albuquerque Isotopes in a 3-1 loss before a crowd of 6,971 at Isotopes Park on Thursday night.

Colorado Springs would strike first, plating a run against Isotopes starter David Huff in the Sox third on a Luis Sardinas RBI single. Brandon Macias crossed the plate to give the visiting side a 1-0 lead in the only run-scoring play of the Sox night.

Albuquerque struck back for two runs in the very next frame as the Isotopes offense tagged Sox starter Zach Davies (1-2, 5.00) with RBIs by Christian Adames and Wilin Rosario. The right-hander would get out of the frame without allowing another run as the Isotopes took a 2-1 lead after three innings of play.

2013-14 Australian Baseball League MVP Ryan Casteel drove in the final run of the night on an RBI double in the sixth inning against Davies, plating Angelys Nina to give the Isotopes a 3-1 lead. The recent Sox acquisition allowed three total runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four over six solid innings of work.

Hale would allow just the one run on four hits while striking out four over 3.1 innings of work before turning the ball over to Aaron Laffey (4-3, 4.14) with one out in the Sox fourth. The left-hander surrendered two hits and a walk, striking out two in 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Preston Guilmet and Tim Dillard combined to toss two shutout innings in relief of Davies, keeping Albuquerque off the board the rest of the way in the tight contest.

Right-handed relievers Miguel Castro and Justin Miller held the Sox offense scoreless over their final two frames to secure the 3-1 win for the Isotopes in the series-opener in Albuquerque. The Isotopes improve to 58-75 with the win as Colorado Springs falls to 56-76 on the season.

The Sox will look to break their mini two-game skid with a win in game two of this four-game set in Albuquerque. Josh Roenicke (7-10, 5.96) takes the mound against Isotopes right-hander Eddie Butler (2-4, 6.00) with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM MDT from Isotopes Park in Albuquerque.
