Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - K.C. Huth went 3-for-5 with a run scored, but the Railroaders gave up five runs in the 8th inning and Sioux Falls took the series with a 6-4 win at The Depot on Thursday night.
Patrick Mincey had given up just one unearned run on four hits with 71 pitches through the first seven innings, but the first four Canaries reached in the 8th to end his night. After walk, single and hit batter loaded the bases, Dan Motl scored two runs with his first hit of the series.
Cortland Cox came on in relief and Mitch Glasser laid down a sacrifice bunt to set up Jordan Smith for the go-ahead two-run double. The Canaries later scored an insurance run on Jabari Henry's single.
It was Sioux Falls's first win in 20 games when trailing after seven innings, and Mincey was pegged with his fifth loss after allowing five runs on six hits over seven-plus frames.
Cleburne fell behind 1-0 on a Blake Schmit sacrifice fly in the 1st, but answered on Angel Rosa's two-run double in the 4th and Trevor Sealey's two-run homer in the 5th. Rosa doubled with two outs and the bases loaded, but a fan interfered with the ball down the left-field line and prevented John Menken from scoring when he otherwise would have.
Huth's three-hit effort was his second of the season, but Cleburne stranded nine runners on base - including five in the final two innings. Levi Scott, who went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored, struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.
Rafael Palmeiro went 1-for-3 before he was lifted for a pinch runner following his single in the 5th inning, while Alex Polston went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Blake Grant-Parks singled and now has hits in 12 of his last 13 games.
The Railroaders now turn to a three-game set with the Kansas City T-Bones beginning on Friday. First pitch time is 7:06 p.m. and Cleburne will throw RHP Patrick Young for his second consecutive start against the T-Bones.
Friday is also Fireworks Friday presented by First National Bank, and all fans can enjoy a free fireworks show at the conclusion of the game. Tickets are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
