WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed left-handed pitcher Paul James (PJ) Browne on Thursday.
Browne is a true rookie, and will start tonight against the St. Paul Saints in what will be his professional debut.
Browne recently finished his college career at Merrimack College (North Andover, Massachusetts). The Rutland, Massachusetts native was 4-3 with two saves and a 2.21 ERA in 12 starts and three relief appearances for the Merrimack Warriors as a senior this past spring. In 85.2 innings, Browne walked 24, struck out 83, and allowed just three home runs. During his four-year college career, the 22-year-old left-hander was a combined 18-12 with a 3.37 ERA in 38 starts and five relief appearances. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Browne was voted to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2015.
The Goldeyes also activated left-handed pitcher Josh Blanco from the Disabled List.
The Goldeyes' active roster now stands at 23 players, which is the American Association maximum during the regular season.
