June 28, 2018 - American Association (AA)
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Will Solomon gave up two hits against the first two Texas batters he faced before allowing just two more baserunners over the next 30 batters in a complete game 13-1 win over the AirHogs in front of 4,110 fans on a humid day at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks smashed 19 hits, including 10 in the first three innings, to take a share of the North Division lead. Fargo-Moorhead and Gary have identical 20-17 records. The RailCats play Chicago later tonight.
Solomon struck out seven batters and walked only one over nine innings to secure his fourth win of the season. He is 4-4 with a 4.22 ERA after 49 innings pitched in eight starts this year.
Eight of the nine RedHawks starters finished with hits, and seven finished with more than one. Charlie Valerio returned to the lineup from the disabled list to the tune of three hits and three RBIs, two of which came on a two-run jack in the sixth inning. The home run was Valerio's ninth of the season and first since June 10.
With the win, the RedHawks clinch their first series sweep of the season. Fargo-Moorhead is 5-1 against the AirHogs this year. The two teams are not scheduled to play again in the regular season.
The RedHawks will travel to Illinois for a three-game series at Chicago against the Dogs beginning tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Friday's game will be the first ever meeting between the teams. Fargo-Moorhead returns to Newman Outdoor Field next Tuesday, July 3, for a series with the St. Paul Saints.
