Chicago Dogs News Release
Gary, Ind. - Daniel Minor tossed eight shutout innings and the Dogs were blanked for the first time in franchise history, falling to the RailCats 7-0 Thursday night at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary.
The RailCats pounced on the Dogs for two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second, and never looked back. D.K. Carey, Will Savage, and Andy DeJesus all produced run-scoring hits to help break the seal for the 'Cats.
Dogs starter Connor Root worked four and two-thirds innings for the Dogs in his eighth start of the year, allowing four earned runs on a season-high eleven hits.
The fifth inning again proved to be a trouble spot for Chicago pitching as the RailCats put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth frame thanks to four hits, including a two-run double from Andy Paz. Paz went 1-4 in the game and is now 11-21 with six doubles and seven RBI on the year against the Dogs.
Jonathan Moroney saw his 14-game hitting streak snapped for Chicago, going 0-4 with a strikeout.
Minor picked up his second consecutive shutout win to give him an American Association-leading six victories on the year. The RailCats right-hander has now worked 18 consecutive scoreless innings.
With the win the RailCats earn a split of the four-game home-and-home series between the two clubs and maintain their spot atop the American Association's Northern division.
Chicago falls to 11-27 on the year with the loss. The two teams will meet in another four-game home-and-home series next week beginning Monday, July 2 at Impact Field.
In between, the Dogs will play host to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for three games beginning this Friday at Impact Field. Tickets are on sale now in line at the Impact Field Ticket Office, and online at www.thechicagodogs.com/tickets/
