Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - DJ Brown gave up just two earned runs in 6.1 innings on the mound tonight to lead the RedHawks to a 5-3 win over the Texas AirHogs in front of 4,956 fans on Military Appreciation Night at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks move to 19-17 for the year and into a tie for second place in the North Division with the St. Paul Saints. Both teams trail Gary SouthShore by a half game.
Fargo-Moorhead struck first in the third inning, with three runs. The first came on an RBI single by Devan Ahart that scored Brennan Metzger and the other two came when Ahart and Maikol Gonzalez scored on an error by the first baseman to give the home team a 3-0 lead.
The AirHogs started a rally in the middle innings, scoring a run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to come within a run of the lead before DJ Brown and the RedHawks bullpen shut the door. F-M scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to take the 5-3 lead that would last thanks to stellar relief appearances for Anthony Pacillo and Andrew Woeck.
DJ Brown is now 4-0 in eight starts this year. He has a 3.17 ERA in 51 innings of work this year.
Randy McCurry retired the Texas side on six pitches in the ninth inning to seal his 10th save of the season. This was the third time McCurry retired three straight batters to finish a game this season.
With losses tonight by all three teams that were ahead of the RedHawks in the North Division standings coming into today, Fargo-Moorhead vaults over the Winnipeg Goldeyes into the second spot. The RedHawks will have a chance to take the division lead with a win and a Gary loss to Chicago tomorrow night.
Fargo-Moorhead will go for its first sweep of the season tomorrow afternoon against the AirHogs. First pitch for the business day game is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
