RailRiders Tops Bisons 7-3

(Moosic, PA) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders took down the Buffalo Bisons by a score of 7-3 in Saturday evening's contest. Andres Chaparro hit his 15th homer of the season by way of a grand slam in a five RBI, 2-3 day that piloted the RailRiders to victory.

Buffalo got on the board first as Davis Schneider smacked a home run in the third inning.

The RailRiders broke through in the bottom of the fifth in a big way. Michael Hermosillo drew a walk and Jesús Bastidas laced a base hit to put two on. Brandon Lockridge grounded into a fielder's choice, but Estevan Florial worked a walk to load the bases. Ben Rortvedt would bring Hermosillo in with a walk of his own, tying it at 1-1. With the bases still loaded and two outs Andrés Chaparro his second grand slam of the season pushing SWB out front by a score of 5-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Lockridge led off with a base hit and stole second. Rortvedt lined an RBI single to drive Lockridge in and the RailRiders extended their lead at 6-1. Chaparro struck again with a triple, his fifth RBI of the night, scoring Rortvedt and making it a 7-1 ballgame in favor of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Buffalo chipped in the eighth. Nathan Lukes led off with a double, Schneider worked a walk and Spencer Horwitz loaded the bases with a single. An RBI fielder's choice from Wynton Bernard brought in Lukes, trimming SWB's advantage to 7-2.

The Bisons added a run in the ninth, but were stifled by SWB from there. Jamie Ritchie singled, Cam Eden drew a walk and on a fielder's choice from Lukes and an error, Ritchie would score making it 7-3.

Mitch Spence (W, 5-4) got the start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tossing six innings of one run baseball with just five hits given up and six strikeouts. Matt Bowman tossed an inning allowing just a run on a hit while striking out two. Josh Maciejewski pitched a scoreless frame giving up just one hit with two strikeouts. Greg Weissert tossed an inning allowing just a run to close it out.

Wes Parsons (L, 0-2) pitched 4.2 innings for Buffalo in the start allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and five fanned. Zach Pop pitched 1.1 innings with two runs given up on the grand slam. Jay Jackson allowed two runs in an inning of work. Brandon Eisert pitched a scoreless frame as well.

A Sunday series finale is on tap, with the RailRiders scheduled to start Randy Vasquez First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
