ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indianapolis Indians put on an offensive display with 18 hits, including 10 for extra bases, in an 18-5 blowout over the Columbus Clippers on Friday night at Victory Field. Indianapolis sent 11 batters to the plate during a six-run second that featured six walks and four hits, led by Jared Triolo who tripled home Canaan Smith-Njigba for Indy's first run and capped the frame with a run-scoring single. Between Triolo's knocks, Miguel Andújar dumped a two-run single into right. Columbus responded with five runs of its own in the third against Kyle Nicolas in his second Triple-A start, but the Indians scored the game's final 12 runs to cruise to a victory. The Indians tacked on three runs in the third to push their lead back to four. In the fourth, Triolo tripled again before Aaron Shackelford roped his second double of the game. Indy then piled on four runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth. Andújar recorded his third run-scoring hit of the night ahead of a three-run shot by Ryan Vilade that made it 14-5, and Alika Williams and Chris Owings launched back-to-back homers off Jason Bilous. With Nicolas removed after three innings, John O'Reilly posted a pair of scoreless innings while Indy added on. Colin Selby and Chase De Jong followed suit, each tossing shutout innings in relief. The trio yielded just two hits and registered seven strikeouts.
MIGGY'S BACK TO MASHIN': Miguel Andújar had his third career-high tying four-hit performance in his last 19 games. After snapping his career-high 20-game hitting streak on June 20, he is 8-for-18 in his last four games since. His 20-game hitting streak is the second-longest in the Victory Field behind only Rajai Davis' 21-gamer in 2007. Andújar currently ranks among International League leaders in average (2nd, .356), doubles (T-5th, 20), OPS (6th, 1.030, slugging percentage (8th, .607) and on-base percentage (10th, .423). In June, the 28-year-old is hitting .408 (29-for-71) with 17 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple, three home runs, 20 RBI and an 1.166 OPS.
VILADE CRUSHES: Ryan Vilade collected his sixth multi-hit game of the month and crushed his fourth home run of the season on Friday night. He has a hit safely in four games since a three-game drought and is 6-for-14 with two doubles, a home run and six RBI. Despite his three-game hitting drought, he reached base via walk in each contest. He has drawn at least one walk in five of his last seven games and is currently working a 15-game on-base streak. The 24-year-old is hitting .323 (20-for-62) with four doubles, two triples, 13 RBI and 12 walks in 18 games in June.
TRIOLO TRIPLES: Jared Triolo became the 11th player in the Victory Field era to have two triples in a game, the first since Trayvon Robinson in 2019. He finished the night a home runs shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with his pair of triples, a double and two RBI. The three extra-base hits matched his career high. Earlier this week, the 25-year-old swiped a career-high four stolen bases in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader while going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk. Triolo became the first Indians baserunner to swipe at least four bases in a game since Eury Perez on June 29, 2017 vs. Durham.
SHOWING OUT AT THE VIC: Ten of the Indians' 18 hits were extra-base knocks on Friday night, marking their highest total since notching 11 on Aug. 7, 2021, at Iowa. Indy's 18-run output was its second-most scored at Victory Field, one shy of 19 vs. Charlotte on May 6, 2004.
BACK TO BACK: Alika Williams and Chris Owings crushed back-to-back jacks in the eighth inning on Friday night to put an exclamation point on the Indians rout. It was the sixth time the Indians have hit back-to-back home runs this season, the first since Cal Mitchell and Canaan Smith-Njigba did so on May 31 vs. Toledo.
QUITE THE RELIEF: After starter Kyle Nicolas exited after 3.0 innings last night, the Indians bullpen held strong with 6.0 scoreless frames - allowing two hits and punching out seven Clippers. John O'Reilly in the win with 2.0 shutout innings and two strikeouts. Colin Selby and Chase De Jong followed his lead with 2.0 shutout inning apiece. The Indians bullpen has allowed only two runs in 17.1 innings this week.
TONIGHT: The Indians and Clippers will play the penultimate game of their seven-game set tonight at 7:05 PM ET at Victory Field. With Friday night's rout, the Indians have taken a 3-2 series lead and can take their fourth series of the season with a win tonight or tomorrow. The Clippers lead the season series, 9-6, with two remaining matchups. The two teams first met at Victory Field from April 25-30, with Columbus taking three of five in a rain-shortened series. Tonight, Pittsburgh's top pitching prospect Quinn Priester (7-3, 4.74) will take the mound for Indianapolis against Columbus' left-hander Joey Cantillo (1-1, 5.72).
PRIESTER DAY: Quinn Priester will take the mound for his team-leading 15th start of the season tonight vs. Columbus. He leads the team in quality starts with five in his last eight starts. Since May 4, he is 6-0 with a 3.51 ERA (19er/48.2ip), 40 strikeouts, 1.38 WHIP and .251 average against. He is currently rated Pittsburgh's No. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
THIS DATE IN 2013: Shortstop Josh Harrison hit two bases-clearing triples to plate six of Indy's 10 runs vs. Charlotte. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Harrison connected on the first pitch of his at-bat against left-hander Charlie Leesman to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead. When Harrison went up to the plate with the bases loaded again in the fifth, the inning unfolded in similar fashion as he hit a triple to right off southpaw Santos Rodriguez. Harrison batted .300 (3-for-10) and had 11 RBI with the bases loaded for Indianapolis that season.
