Comeback Part II, Saints Score Four in Seventh to Defeat Mud Hens 7-5

TOLEDO, OH - For the second consecutive night the St. Paul Saints used a four-run seventh inning to turn a deficit into a lead. Trailing by a run going into the seventh, the Saints took the lead and then hung on in the ninth for a 7-5 win over the Toledo Mud Hens. The win improves the Saints to 43-30.

With the Saints down 4-3 in the seventh, the Saints grabbed the lead by putting up four runs. Elliot Soto led off with a single into left. Andrew Stevenson brought him home with a triple into the right field corner tying the game at four. Stevenson finished the night 3-4 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored. With one out, Matt Wallner gave the Saints a 5-4 lead with an RBI double to right. He finished the night 3-4 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. With two outs, Trevor Larnach walked and Bechtold made it 7-4 with a two-run double down the third base line. Bechtold went 2-4 with two doubled, two RBI, and a run scored.

In the ninth, the Mud Hens brought the tying run to the plate. Corey Joyce led off the inning against closer Patrick Murphy with a single to right. With two outs and Joyce at second on defensive indifference, Justyn-Henry Malloy got the Mud Hens within two on an RBI single to left-center. Murphy would get Tyler Nevin to bounce back to the mound to end the game and pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Saints grabbed the lead in the first when Bechtold roped a one out double to left and scored on a two-out single from Anthony Prato making it 1-0.

The Mud Hens answered with a run of their own in the bottom half. Nevin was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With one out, Andre Lipcius doubled him to third. A fielder's choice by Donny Sands scored Nevin tying the game at one.

With two outs and nobody on in the fourth, the Mud Hens put up three runs. Back-to-back singles by Lipcius and Sands was followed by a three-run homer to right-center from Joe Rizzo, his third of the season, giving the Mud Hens a 4-1 lead.

Three straight hits for the Saints got them to within a run in the fifth. With one out Stevenson singled to left, Jose Miranda doubled him to third, and Matt brought them both home with a single to right cutting the deficit to 4-3.

The Saints bullpen of Josh Winder, Oliver Ortega, and Murphy were solid going 5.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out five.

After all nine hitters collected a hit in Friday night's game, eight of nine collected a hit on Saturday.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the six-game series at 3:05 p.m. (CT). The Saints send LHP Dallas Keuchel (NR) to the mound against Mud Hens RHP Ashotn Goudeau (1-4, 7.93). The game can be heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
