RailRiders Continue Dominance over Syracuse

MOOSIC, Pa. - Big innings in the fourth and fifth and a solid performance from the pitching staff lifted the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to an 8-3 win over the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday night at PNC Field.

The Mets took the lead in the top of the fourth when Wilfredo Tovar hit a solo home run against Luis Gil. That was the only hit and run allowed by Gil (2-0) in his 5.0 innings of work. The right-hander walked five and struck out seven.

The RailRiders answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth without a hit against Thomas Szapucki (0-4). Syracuse committed two errors in the inning and the RailRiders stole four bases in taking a 3-1 lead.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tacked on five more runs and sent 10 to the plate in the fifth. Ryan LaMarre had a two-run triple in the inning and scored on a throwing error, while Andrew Velazquez and Kyle Holder both added RBI singles against the Mets bullpen to grow the advantage to 8-1.

Braden Bristo worked around two hits in the sixth to spin a scoreless frame. Stephen Ridings allowed two runs in the seventh during his Triple-A debut, but only one was earned as the Mets clawed back to 8-3.

Reggie McClain closed out the win with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief. The victory broke a two-game losing streak for the RailRiders, and was the 11th straight over Syracuse this season.

POSTGAME NOTES: Trey Amburgey went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored to extend his RailRiders-record on-base streak to 39 consecutive games... Hoy Park finished 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, extending his on-base streak to 29, the fourth-longest in team history... The RailRiders have won seven straight home games, dating back to June 6 against Lehigh Valley.

The RailRiders continue their seven-game series with the Mets with a doubleheader on Wednesday night. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. RHP Brody Koerner (2-3, 3.86) gets the call in game one for SWB, while Syracuse answers with RHP Jesus Reyes (0-6, 6.59). Game two features a matchup of RHP Brian Keller (0-0, 2.20) for the RailRiders against LHP Anthony Banda (3-2, 6.86) of the Mets.
