Quine nets hat trick for Bridgeport

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Alan Quine notched his first career hat trick as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-2 on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Christopher Gibson tied a season-high for stops by a Bridgeport netminder, turning away 38 shots in total. The Sound Tigers end the season series 5-1-0-0 against the Penguins.
Bridgeport earned a power play just 30 seconds into the game and got the first goal of the game just 11 seconds later. Quine took the initial shot, and then banged home his own rebound, giving Bridgeport the lead less than a minute into the game. Tanner Fritz and James Wright got the helpers on Quine's 16th of the season.
The Penguins controlled the rest of the period, outshooting the Sound Tigers 15-11 and getting two power plays after the Sound Tigers' power play goal. Bridgeport killed off both penalties, getting some timely saves from Gibson in the process.
Despite being outshot 9-6 in the second period, the Sound Tigers outscored the Penguins 3-0 in the period. It was Quine again, this time receiving a gorgeous feed from Mike Halmo cross-crease. Quine buried the shot just past the right pad of Tristan Jarry to put Bridgeport on top 2-0.
Quine competed the hat trick midway through the second period, beating Jarry with a backhander from the bottom of the right circle. Quine's 18th of the year marked his first career hat trick and the first on the road for a Sound Tiger this year. It also marked the seventh hat trick this season by a Sound Tiger, increasing what was already a franchise record for hat tricks in a season.
Bridgeport made it 4-0 with just 14 seconds remaining in the second period. Patrick Cullity sent a shot towards the Wilkes-Barre net that deflected off of Connor Jones in front and beat Jarry to put Bridgeport up four. Jarry was pulled to start the period as Brian Foster replaced him.
The Penguins got on the board just 32 seconds into the third period, as Dominik Simon put a rebound past Gibson. However, James Wright got the goal right back as he beat Foster after a strange carom off the end boards to give Wright three points on the night.
Mattias Plachta added a goal with four minutes remaining to finish the scoring at 5-2. Bridgeport ended the game 1-for-3 on the power play while Wilkes-Barre went 0-for-4.
The Sound Tigers are back in action for Puck & Paws Night tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their dog to the game, with all pups getting in free.
