Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Bruins got out to an early lead and played strong throughout the game, but it was ultimately the Hershey Bears who won the game in a 5-round shoot out. Providence outshot the Bears 36-18.
The P-Bruins came out firing and got on the board with their first shot on net. Chris Breen fired off a powerful slap shot from the left point that zipped past Peters' right shoulder. Mark Naclerio deflected another Breen shot from the blue line to put the P-Bruins up 2-0 just 1:48 later. This was Naclerio's first pro goal after signing with Providence after the conclusion of Brown University's season.
Hershey managed to capitalize on the power play with Naclerio in the box for tripping. Walker put the puck past Zane McIntyre to cut the Providence lead to 2-1.
Providence was awarded a Penalty shot towards the end of the first period. Austin Czarnik took the penalty shot, but the puck went just wide of the net. The P-Bruins maintained the 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
Czarnik found redemption after his missed penalty shot when he capitalized on a power play in the middle frame. Alexander Khokhlachev fed the puck to Czarnik who controlled the puck down the right wing and roofed the puck to go up 3-1.
The two goal lead didn't last long, with Hershey scoring their second power play goal of the night 17:24 into the second period.
Hershey's Vrana netted his second goal of the game 2:50 into the third to tie the game at 3-3. For the next 17 minutes, the Providence Bruins were nothing short of dominant, outshooting the Bears 10-3 and with multiple quality scoring chances, but nothing found the back of the net. It was still knotted up at 3-3 after regulation, forcing 3v3 overtime. The P-Bruins had momentum in OT, firing another 4 shots on net.
Neither team managed to put the puck in the net, so it was on to the shoot out. Hershey shot first and scored, but McIntyre made the next two stops and Colton Hargrove went bar down on the third attempt. Two more rounds saw Hershey netting another goal and taking the game 4-3.
The P-Bruins will seek revenge tomorrow night when they take on the Bears once again at the Dunk.
