
Falcons Snap Losing Skid with Win against Devils

Albany, NY - The Springfield Falcons snapped their losing streak by scoring four goals in the third period and beating the Albany Devils by a score of 5-4 on Saturday night.
Tyler Gaudet ripped home the game's first goal 2:27 into the game with his third of the year, all of which against Albany. The goal was unassisted and scored on a rush into the zone. Gaudet sent the puck over the shoulder of Albany's goaltender Yann Danis to give the Falcons a good start followed with a heard of scoring chances. At 15:19, the Devils responded on the power play with a rebound goal from Ben Johnson. His third of the season was assisted by Jim O'Brien and Brandon Burlon. Falcons' goalie Marek Langhamer made ten saves during the first period.
Halfway through the second period, Johnson scored his second of the night on a rebound. At 11:05, his fourth of the season was assisted by Corbin McPherson and Paul Thompson. Johnson struck again for the hat trick with 1:53 left in the second period. His fifth of the year was scored once again on a rebound with assists from Brian O'Neill and Marc-Andre Gragnani.
Just 38 seconds into the third period, Michael Bunting deflected a Dakota Mermis shot to bring the game to a 3-2 score. His tenth of the year was scored on the power play that carried over from the second period. At 7:03, the Falcons tied the game at three with a goal from Jordan Szwarz. His eight of the year was assisted by Brendan Shinnimin and Justin Hache. The scoring blitz continued with a wrist shot tally from Domenic Monardo. His seventh of the year was scored on an odd-man rush with Bunting collecting the assist. Matia Marcantuoni polished off the four-goal third period by scoring the eventual game winning goal at 14:18. His third of the year was assisted by Szwarz and Shinnimin. With a late power play, the Devils came within one goal. Matt Lorito scored his 17th of year of the year with assists from Thompson and Gragnani at 17:28. With the score at 5-4 in favor of the Falcons, Albany pulled netminder Danis for the extra attacked with under 1:30 left. The Falcons were able to hold the Devils' offense and win the game. Langhamer made 36 saves on 40 shots to collect his seventh win of the year. Danis made 16 saves to move his record to 27-11-5.
The Falcons finish their season-long seven-game road trip with a 5 p.m. game tomorrow night against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The game can be heard on NewsRadio560 WHYN or viewed on AHL Live.
