Monsters Win Fifth Straight, Top Wolves 4-1

ROSEMONT, IL - In the last of eight meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Chicago Wolves on Saturday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL by a final score of 4-1. With the win, the Monsters' season-best fifth consecutive victory, Lake Erie improved to 39-21-5-5 overall this season and with a .629 points percentage, climbed to second place in the AHL's Central Division standings and sit poised to capture the second Calder Cup Playoff berth in franchise history.

Veteran Monsters defenseman Steve Eminger made it 1-0 with the first period's only goal on Saturday, an even-strength score at 7:11 on feeds from Markus Hannikainen and Josh Anderson. In the middle frame, Chicago potted the period's lone tally as Jordan Caron netted an unassisted power-play marker at 8:41 to make it 1-1 heading into the third.

Lake Erie's offense erupted for three even-strength final-frame goals, from Michael Chaput at 5:00, assisted by Daniel Zaar, T.J. Tynan at 9:12, assisted by Kerby Rychel and Justin Falk, and Anderson at 13:38, assisted by John Ramage, to establish the Monsters' 4-1 final margin of victory.

Lake Erie goaltender Brad Thiessen improved to 12-4-4 in net this season thanks to a 25-save performance, while Pheonix Copley took the loss in net for the Wolves despite stopping 27 of the 31 pucks he faced.
